Foreign Aid Country Case Studies

Overview

U.S. foreign aid programs have contributed to the successful transition of many countries that were at one time heavy aid recipients and are now growing sustainably. Some have become aid donors in their own right, providing south-south leadership in international development. These countries, completing what USAID calls a "Journey to Self-Reliance," are today valuable partners with the United States in defense, trade, and health, among other areas of mutual interest.

In this project, The Lugar Center's Foreign Aid Effectiveness team presents a diverse group of countries that have undergone or are in the process of undergoing successful aid transitions.
