Senator Lugar to receive Golden Laurel Branch award from Bulgaria
Bulgarian Minister of Foreign Affairs Kristian Vigenin will present former Senator Richard Lugar with the Golden Laurel Branch award at a ceremony at the Bulgarian Embassy this evening. The Golden Laurel Branch is the highest honor granted by the Bulgarian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Senator Lugar is receiving the award in recognition of his significant contribution to and support for Bulgaria's accession to NATO as Bulgaria celebrates ten years of NATO membership.
Following the announcement that he would receive the Golden Laurel Branch award, Senator Lugar said, "The ongoing crisis in Ukraine demonstrates NATO's vital role in trans-Atlantic security and economic growth. We are fortunate that Bulgaria is a NATO member, and I look forward to continued NATO expansion."
